Bio
Stephanie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist, and her goal in practicing psychotherapy is to establish an ongoing conversation and to develop a relationship which brings a client greater self-knowledge, access to their inner resources, liberation of repressed feelings and healing from trauma. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s expression on every person’s “wholeness” is primary in her work: “No matter how many scars we carry from what we have gone through and suffered in the past, our intrinsic wholeness is still there… We are still what was present in us before the scarring…And we can reconnect with that, because it is the very nature of who we truly are.”
Through cultivating insight and orienting a client to their strengths, Stephanie strives to collaborate in finding their resilience - creating calm and contentment in their family, work, social, and spiritual life. Stephanie also considers humor and music to be essential to her work, and she highly encourages clients to be a seeker of further coping skills they feel organically “fit” them, to support overcoming self-blame and restrictive beliefs. This allows for further empowerment of the client – which helps them to allow their authentic self to flourish.
Stephanie is highly experienced in offering services to adults, children and families in all settings, so she is well versed in offering resources to a client, but her focus for private practice is exclusively with adults. She specializes in the arenas of anxiety, stress related to career, depression and mood disorders, as well as relationships, complicated bereavement and trauma.
Stephanie’s primary theoretical approaches are based in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with Systems Theory being of primary importance in understanding the client’s full worldview and how they relate with others. Stephanie is also a trained EMDR Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), and she is a member of EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
Stephanie received her advanced standing clinical Masters of Social Work from The University of Arkansas, Little Rock, and received her Bachelors of Social Work from The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She is also a member of The National Association of Social Work (NASW) and The Counsel on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Stephanie grew up in Fayetteville and now lives in Bentonville, but she did spend a decade living in California in the 1990s while in the corporate world, so in her travels and her careers she has found a love for art, culture and all things beaches, mountains and sunsets.
