Kay Pantier is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She has specializations in trauma, play therapy, technology assisted counseling and supervision. Kay is trained by EMDRIA in the EMDR model for working with trauma. Kay graduated with her counseling degree from John Brown University in 2008. She has 25 years of experience as a former elementary school teacher and principal.

Kay specializes in working with families and children. She has a passion for helping those who help others and enjoys training other professionals in sandtray therapy, play therapy, trauma and supervision.

Description

Expressive art techniques are helpful tools in the hands of licensed therapists. Sandtray is a valuable tool for working with clients across the lifespan. This training is an introduction to the use of sandtray and is designed for the therapist who has little or no training or experience in the use of sandtray. Experiential activities are an integral part of the training. Participants will build and process multiple sandtrays during the 2 day training. Lecture, group and didactic experiences are part of the training. Attendees will participate in experiential activities that will give them the tools to use in working with their clients immediately.

Goals and Objectives

Day 1 Goals 

  • Explore the history of Sandtray. 

  • Identify brain development and how it influences working with clients in Counseling and Play Therapy. 

  • Identify types of trauma and how trauma impacts a client's work in Sandtray in Play Therapy. 

  • Explain the impact of trauma on the brain and body.

  • Identify attachment styles.

  • Examine case studies of client's use of Sandtray in Play Therapy.

  • Construct experiential Sandtrays and learn skills to process the sandtray.  


Day 2 Goals 

  • Compare the difference in sandtray and sandplay.

  • Identify the materials and supplies needed for Sandtray in Counseling and Play Therapy. 

  • Identify how to set up your Sandtray materials and space .

  • Identify the protocol for using Sandtray in Counseling and Play Therapy.

  • Participants will construct experiential sandtrays that can be incorporated in Play Therapy and Counseling.
