Court and the Play Therapist:   A training on surviving and thriving!

Do you feel anxious and overwhelmed at the whisper of the word subpoena?  Do attorneys, at best, feel as if they are from a different planet, and at worst, an evil one? If so, you are not alone. Counselors are finding themselves faced with the prospect of testifying in court more and more.  This is especially true if you work with children. Come join us as we work through this increasing reality. The morning will focus on ethics and how to maintain your composure and professionalism as a witness. In the afternoon we will be joined by a panel of local attorneys as we come together to build a bridge between our two worlds and the divergent roles  we play in this adversarial system.

  • Participants will discuss how the ethical code impacts court testimony.

  • Participants will be able to address 5 strategies for being a successful witness.

  • Participants will learn how to properly prepare your general file, including a summary of treatment and an informed consent.

  • Participants will be able to site the differences between being a fact witness and an expert witness.

  • Participants will be able to incorporate Play Therapy techniques with clients and themselves to prepare for court.

  • Participants will learn how to educate the court about play therapy and its effectiveness with clients.
